Functional Skills:

Functional Skills English Level 1 and Level 2 – GCSE Equivalent - Pearson Accredited

All classes are face to face (subject to Covid-19 regulations) and take place twice a week. Funding may be available for those that are in employment, please enquire within.

Functional Skills Maths Entry Level 3, Level 1 and Level 2 – GCSE Equivalent - Pearson Accredited

The course duration will last for 3 weeks and there will be 2 exams at the end of the course. The assessment includes a calculator and a non-calculator section. Class sizes shall be between 5-20 All classes are face to face (subject to Covid-19 regulations) and take place twice a week. -Funding may be available for those that are in employment, please enquire within.
ESOL Courses:

ESOL Entry 1, 2 ,3, Level 1 and 2- Trinity College London Accredited

All classes are face to face (subject to Covid-19 regulations) and take place twice a week. Funding may be available for those that are in employment, please enquire within.
Training courses:

Free LEVEL 1 & 2, Online courses via Zoom, available for those already in employment or actively looking for work.

Basic Life Support Training – Level 1, one day, 10.00am – 4.00pm.

Use of resuscitation methods, including: use of an AED and much more How to provide first aid to an unconscious casualty? choking causality etc. Assessment of training will follow straight after training and certificates given.

Pearson BTEC level 3 award in education and training- 10 week delivery – 2 hour sessions Accredited

It is an introductory teaching qualification How to plan, prepare, deliver and evaluate basic teaching and learning sessions, in a variety of teaching or training contexts

Awareness of Dementia, Level 2, 2 hours Accredited

How to recognise signs and symptoms of the more common forms of dementia and how they impact the individual. Different models of dementia, both medical and social. Examine the way in which dementia impacts the everyday life of individuals who have dementia and the potential impact on them of other people’s behaviour and attitudes towards them.

Understand Mental ill Health, Level 2, 2 hours Accredited

This unit will give you knowledge of the main forms of mental ill health according to the psychiatric classification system. You will consider the strengths and limitations of this system and look at alternative frameworks for understanding mental distress. Learn about the ways that mental ill health can affect the lives of individuals and the people who play an important role in their lives. This is vital to understanding the wider and sometimes unseen impact of mental ill health. By looking at social factors, such as discrimination and stigma To develop a deeper understanding of mental ill health and its consequences. You will also consider the benefits of early intervention in promoting mental health and wellbeing.

Equality and Diversity training -Level 2, 2.5 hours Accredited

This unit introduces the knowledge and skills to enable you to work in a fair and inclusive way You will explore the meaning of diversity, equality, inclusion and discrimination You will consider the importance of non-discriminatory practice by looking at its impact on individuals and those who work in the sector You will explore the promotion of equality and investigate ways to adapt services to meet individuals’ diverse needs, assessing the benefits to users of services of doing so.

Introduction to the Impact of Acquired Brain Injury – L2, 2.5 hours per sessions, 2 sessions Accredited

Will provide knowledge and understanding of what the term ‘Acquired Brain Injury’ means. It will consider causes, treatments, and how behavioural changes would need person centred approaches.

Diabetes Awareness – 3 hours

Provide an understanding of what diabetes is and its prevalence in the UK Know the cause of diabetes, the symptoms and how it is diagnosed Understand how diabetes is treated and how it can be prevented Understand the importance of supporting people with a diabetes Implement diabetes awareness measures in the workplace.

Children’s safeguarding – 2 hours Accredited

Know about the legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures for safeguarding the welfare of children and young people including e-safety Know what to do when children or young people are ill or injured, including emergency procedures Know how to respond to evidence or concerns that a child or young person has been abused, harmed or bullied

Adult’s Safeguarding Level 2, 2 hours Accredited

Know how to recognise signs of abuse Know how to respond to suspected or alleged abuse Understand the national and local context of safeguarding and protection from abuse Know how to recognise and report unsafe practices Understand principles for online safety

Introduction to Physical Disability, Level 2, 2.5 hours Accredited

Introduces the different types of physical disability, their causes and how individuals may be affected in different ways. Will provide awareness of knowledge of a range of disabilities and their effects on individual’s lives and as appropriate their life opportunities

End of Life Care Awareness, Level 2, 2.5 hours per session, 2- 3 sessions

Will support learning about different perspectives on death and dying, and recognise the importance of the policies that support practice in the setting. It will develop knowledge of the different factors that can affect communication in end of life care and of the services that are available for end of life care users.

The Causes and spread of Infection, Level 2, 2 hours Accredited

Will help you to understand the causes and transmission modes of infection. Differences between infection and colonisation The areas of infection and the types of infection caused by different microorganisms. Give you an understanding of the methods of transmission The conditions needed for microorganisms to grow and the routes of entry into the body, including the key factors that encourage infection.

Autistic Spectrum Conditions Awareness, Level 2, 2.5 per hour session, 2 – 3 sessions Accredited

Introduces Autistic Spectrum Conditions. Explores areas of the conditions and their effects on individuals and the care needs.

Recognising and managing Stroke Symptoms, 2.5 hours per session, 2 sessions Accredited

Will provide learners knowledge and understanding of what a stroke is and how to recognise when a stroke is happening. Learners will gain an understanding of the risk factors associated with stroke and how they are managed. Learning will cover how important an emergency response, treatment and management is to the outcome for the individual who has suffered a stroke.

Medication Awareness, Accredited Course, 3 hours (Health and Social Care) Accredited

Understand the legislation that affects the administration of medicines Describe how medication should be stored and recorded Understand the different types of medication and how they work Follow protocols and policies when receiving, storing and recording medicines Describe common adverse reactions to medication Understand the differences in protocols between various healthcare provisions

Early Years Health & Safety – Workshop, 2 hours

Health and Social Care – Health & Safety – Workshop 2 hours

Understand own responsibilities & others in respect of H & S Understand the use of risk assessments Understand procedures of responding to accidents and sudden illness Understand how to reduce the spread of infection Understand how to move and handle equipment safely Understand how to handle hazardous substances and materials Understand how to promote fire safety in the work setting Understand how to implement security measure in the work setting Know how to manage own stress

Principles of Customer Service – level 2, 6 sessions over 12 weeks Accredited

To provide learners with an introduction to the underpinning knowledge and attitudes required for working within a customer service environment. The qualification is suitable for learners who want to work in customer service and who may already have some experience in a customer service-related role, and require a short course to help them better understand the concepts that inform the principles and practices of customer service.

Child Care Level 2 (One-year course) Course Registration fee Accredited

With this qualification, learners are much more employable and can go and work in a rewarding Nursery Nurse role. With units ranging from safeguarding to child development, the course gives a broad knowledge of child care and prepares learners to work in the child care sector.

Health & Social Care, Level 2 (One-year course) Course Registration fee Accredited

This qualification gives learners the opportunity to develop the fundamental technical skills and underpinning knowledge and understanding required to become competent in the job role. These cover the following areas: communication, personal development, equality and inclusion, duty of care, safeguarding, person-centred approaches, health and safety and handling information.

Traineeships

We will be holding, this June, a variety of traineeships to help those looking to gain experience or some qualification to help further their careers. Enrolment for the traineeship is currently underway! If anyone is between the ages of 18-24, and would like to increase their chances of gaining employment, contact our Traineeships Coordinator at DET using the details given below Traineeship package information. . .
